What a glorious two days it has been, just staying at home, quietly working on the computer. While normally, I don't like being down with the sniffles, sometimes it's good because I get to catch up with my backlog with my various freelance activities. And it's just nice to be at home, with my bed close at hand, and cable TV, and home-cooked meals. (Trust me, after a while, anything with MSG can be quite sickening.)
Anyway, when I'm down with the flu, there are a number of remedies that, at least my bespren Jilly assures me, will deal with the cold. But then, she's a walking pharmacy, so maybe I should believe her.
Home Remedy 1 - Paracetamol. Whether you are partial to Biogesic, Neozep, or Decolgen, they always come in handy for a quick fix. Of course, diehard hypochondriacs will tell you that you may need something stronger, but then that "something stronger" might be more than enough to send an ox to La-La Land. I'd recommend the Decolgen No-Drowse, which comes in packets of four, because it deals with your dripping nose without sending you to sleep. Remember to take these little tablets in 4-6 hour intervals, depending on the gravity of the situation.
Home Remedy 2 - Vitamin C. Whether you're taking the multivitamin or dowsing yourself with orange juice, Vitamin C is good for you. Apparently, it helps your body build resistance to the virus, which means that it must be good. Personally, my friend Tine recommends eating three ponkan fruits one after the other to deal with the nasty sniffles.
Home Remedy 3 - Hot Tea. It's always comforting to wrap yourself in your favorite blanket and snuggle down in front of the TV with a cup of hot tea when you're feeling that you're coming down with a cold. I'd recommend mint tea, but if you're the fruit kind, then get Apple Cinnamon or Orange. And don't forget to buy honey for that - sugar just won't hack it anymore. Personally, though, I love hot calamansi juice topped with syrup.
Home Remedy 4 - Sex. Seriously. It works. Or if not, heavy petting and making out will do. ^_^ Just be armed with lots of tissue.
Home Remedy 5 - Sleep. Whether you're sick or not, sleep is always great. It's your body's way of telling you that it needs to recharge, that it needs to stay still for awhile. Usually, your body knows what's best for itself, so it would be a very wise decision to listen to it.
